Visitors to the Mountains
Three Sisters and Mount Solitary from Echo Point, Katoomba
The Blue Mountains are 100 kilometres west of Sydney and can be reached in an hour or two by car or train. | The villages, Lapstone to Mount Victoria, stretch along a ridge, of which the Blue Mountains National Park runs off on either side. It is therefore a beautiful and spectacular place, and you are never far from awesome views, hidden gorges and incredible rock escarpments. | Escarpment views, National Pass Wentworth Falls

| Katoomba is the largest town and a mecca for backpackers and luxury
travellers alike. There is a huge range of accommodation from a caravan
park and
backpacker hostels to boutique B & Bs and resorts. Leura is the
place for exclusive shopping, and Blackheath, Wentworth Falls and
Lawson are all charming smaller villages. |
In 2000 the Blue Mountains were accorded World Heritage status. They include more than 90 species of eucalypt and 400 animal species and have some of the best sightseeing and bushwalking in Australia. The National Park covers some 200,000 hectares of cliffs, canyons, waterfalls, forests and valleys.

| But thatÃs not all the Mountains have to offer. There are also great
markets, bookshops, antique stores, cafes and restaurants from which to watch
the mist go by, adventure tours, abseiling and canyoning, horseriding
in the Megalong Valley, beautiful golf courses, the Scenic Railway down
into the Jamison Valley, or the Scenic Skyway across it.
The Blue Mountains has a large and visible gay and lesbian community,
with many local accommodation places, cafes and restaurants owned by
lesbians and gay men. You might want to check out all the GLBTQ owned
businesses on our website while you are here, and of course the
calendar in case thereÃs something happening that you might want to
join in!
